My amiibo Check List
#1
As some of you have gathered from some of my Facebook posts, I have been drawn into the Great amiibo Hunt. These Nintendo figurines that can be used to unlock various features in a multitude of Wii U (and now 3DS) games have become highly sought-after collectors' items ever since the very first wave. Afterward it has been extremely difficult to track down a lot of them; I see store shelves overflowing with the same Marios, Luigis, Peaches, Bowsers, Yoshis, and Pikachus, and hardly anything else, maybe a few Links and/or Zeldas to shake things up a bit.

Part of the distribution woes may have to do with the Periphery Demographic, which sadly leads to the common perception of Nintendo being "kiddy"; Nintendo felt that kids would be the primary consumers, so they release lots of the "kid friendly" characters like Mario, Yoshi, and Pikachu, while characters that are more appreciated by older audiences such as Samus, Pit, Captain Falcon, Ness, and the like, get released in more limited quantities. Not helping matters was the decision to make certain ones retailer-exclusive in North America, examples include MetaKnight (Best Buy exclusive), Jigglypuff (Target exclusive), Gold Mario (Walmart exclusive), Ness (GameStop exclusive), and Palutena (Amazon exclusive). And this has only been occurring more often in the later waves. Region matters too. I understand Fire Emblem is much more popular in Japan and Europe than in North America, so the figures of Marth, Ike, Lucina, and Robin are much easier to find there than here. Japan has distributed them much better all around, with none of this exclusivity BS,  so just as it is with certain retro games, I've found it cheaper to import certain amiibos rather than buy the American ones (they're exactly the same and they thankfully are not region-locked) Certain figurines also are coming in multi-packs/bundles. I learned the hard way that I should have preordered the Splatoon three-pack ASAP rather than try to track them down separately; the Inkling Squid amiibo is only available in that three-pack in North America, and only available in Europe in a bundle with a copy of the game. Japan is the only region where it's available separately.

Anyway, with that all out of the way, I thought I'd just post a checklist here of my collection.
